Getting in Cahoots With Men’s Fashion

Fashion is a very powerful thing – it can make or break a career. It can be used to deliver a message or express emotions. It usually gives people a sense of uniqueness that forms their character. For men, fashion could be just about everything that defines their identity, reflects their passion and justifies their behaviors. With this premise, you can actually judge a book by its cover. And getting to know a man could be as simple as looking at the length or color of his necktie.

So how do you interpret outfits and accessories to define a man’s personality? Start examining different fashion styles of men you know and see if you can find a common connection between their personalities and their fashion styles.

Basically, men’s fashion can be classified into three: conservative, edgy and commercial.

Conservative fashion style usually goes for the typical to traditional choice in outfits and very minimal accessories – just sticking to what are necessary. This style follows rules by the book. Suit in the office, jeans for country driving, shorts for walking, and all the rest that are more or less predictable.

Men who have this fashion style generally want to play things safe. Functionality is their priority more than style. They may have less confidence to try out anything beyond their comfort level. Or they may also be just plain contented with their everyday slacks that they would rather look monotonous than trying out something new and risk being a fashion disaster.

Another classification is what the fashion world would call “edgy”. Be it casual, rugged or formal, this style carries with it character and confidence. Experts say that it is not entirely from the material of a man’s suit or grandness of his accessories starting from cufflinks to men’s watch, that edginess is achieved. Most of the time, men’s get up appear to be edgy because of the way they carry themselves. Confidence and flexibility make that edgy look. Because of their being flexible, it also makes it easy for them to shift from one style to another without being over- or under-dressed. These men can amusingly convert their office attire to a very refreshing after work cocktails get up by simple twists with their ties, pants and shoes.

Men with the edgy style in fashion just have that wit to know what would work best for them. Their willingness to take risks in dressing up is backed up with their high fashion sense.

The last classification would be the “commercial”, bordering to overkill fashion sense and what the present day dictionary would define as “metrosexual”. When you see a man of this fashion style, it would be as if a men’s fashion magazine has come to life – all in one packaging. Most of the time, this goes for wet and tidy-never-untidy haircut, crumpled-free shirts, stiff collars, overly pointed shiny shoes, and all the eye-catching fashion elements one can think of.

These men are usually vain, brand conscious, self-conscious and love to be the center of attraction. When an edgy style is done in an exaggerated manner, the result is usually too commercial. They just have a different way of expressing themselves which most of the time could be taken as loud.

Though fashion styles could lead to several impressions, still, no one can say that these are 100% accurate. For there might also other factors affecting one’s fashion style that may not necessarily mean any of the things mentioned above. However, as it is given that physical appearance, in 99% of the time, really affects the way other people view you, better make it a point that more or less what you get to project outside is something that is really coming from within.

Luxury Wallets

One of the primary functions of fashion is to communicate. It can be used to show you belong to a particular subculture, or express your personality. An expensive car is a status symbol for those who have achieved a certain level of success, and designer clothes can do the same. Wearing brands such as Gucci, Prada, D…G and Hugo Boss demonstrate a level of success. Accessories are that finer bit of detail that really separate those who can afford luxury, and those who pretend. Choosing luxurious accessories is taking that extra step, and it does not go unnoticed. In this article I will look at the most luxurious designer leather wallets, and what each brand represents.

The wallet, out of all men’s accessories, has the closest association with success. If you are paying in an expensive shop or restaurant, it is important to make the correct impression. A leather wallet from a luxury designer brand will immediately show that you are a man who has achieved (of course your clothes need to match this level of luxury). Designer brands such as Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Mulberry and Dunhill have strong assocations with success and have the power to communicate a very strong message. Most wallets look very similar, and so the branding (i.e. use of the logo) is all important. Luxury designer wallets are also manufactured to a very high standard meaning they will not lose their shape as fast as others. There is nothing worse than removing a dog-eared wallet.

Before we take a close look at the designer brands, it is worth understanding the different styles and shapes of wallets. The classic billfold is the most popular choice, as it takes both credit cards and notes. When purchasing an expensive designer wallet, it is important to consider whether you want an integrated coin pocket or not. A coin pocket allows all types of money to be carried in one place, but can make the wallet look slightly bulky. In order to give off an impression of total luxury, the wallet needs to look perfectly clean and crisp. Although slightly old fashioned, a money clip is a unique alternative and has a serious look about it.

Some designer brands have a particular association in people’s minds with luxury and will therefore make the most impact. Louis Vuitton is possibly the most aspirational leather goods brand, famed for its instantly recognisable printed pattern. Their men’s wallets incorporate this pattern, and are sure to make a big impression. This look is bold and is for the person who likes to show off. Gucci is similar to Louis Vuitton in that it is a very opulent brand that strongly features their logo over the wallet. Prada is also connected with these ideals, but is visually more subtle and is synonymous with high quality Italian leather.

For the gentleman who truly appreciates luxury but requires an understated look, it is important to find the right brand that communicates refinement. In the UK there are several designer brands that have a global reputation for the sophisticated English look. Mulberry epitomises Classic English, focusing on high quality leather wallets (textured, moc-croc etc) rather than ostentatious designs. The distinctive tree logo is usually embossed in the bottom right corner and is a real status symbol. Dunhill has a slightly more ‘Modern British’ flavour, with simple and elegant wallet designs. The advertising campaigns featuring Jude Law have helped give this brand a smart yet fashionable and contemporary flavour. For the man who wants a luxury wallet but also show off a quirky side, Paul Smith offers this and more. Paul Smith tends to do away with the classic plain wallet, and incorporates his coloured stripe motif. Other wallets incorporate a ‘naked ladies’ lining or a painted’60s mini. The aforementioned brands tend to have a retail price of around 150. Designer Brands such as Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss offer luxury wallets at a slightly more affordable price between 50 and 80.
