So What Do You Really Know About Fashion?

Fashion is extremely seductive, slightly elusive and ever changing. It has a mysterious power to create a social statement or even to transform a person’s image.

Dictionary.com defines fashion as:

o The prevailing custom or style, as in behavior or dress.
o Something (such as garment) that’s considered to belong to the current mode.
o The characteristic or style of the social elite.

To most people, fashion is a method of utilizing hair, accessories, and clothing to either hide or emphasize something about them. To others, it can be an art form. And to some, it’s almost a religion. Moreover, fashion can be used to disguise the true self, yet it can also be utilized for self expression.

Whose opinion matters?

In fashion, the designers are the great influencers. Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, and Miuccia Prada are some of the directional designers for remixing classics (Prada) or vintage-inspired styles (Jacobs).

Usually, there is a cycle that fashion follows for an upcoming season:

o Starting from about 5-6 months ahead, press people will start attending several fashion shows to see the designer collections. Then, the media will give an editorial coverage to talk about the trends that they think their readers will like.

o The store buyers also prepare many months ahead of the season in order to place their orders with manufacturers. Of course, they will get the clothes and accessories that their clients would most likely buy.

o Opinion leaders (like socialites) and celebrities will usually be the first ones to wear these new trends, therefore spurring the public to accept it.

o But ultimately, only consumers like you will decide what’s “in” – this will be determined if a majority of the public chose to buy into the trend.

In today’s world, there are only three major hubs for manufacturers and designers of accessories and fashion apparel – these are Milan, Paris, and New York. Although, you can also find excellent ones in Sao Paolo, Sydney, Hong Kong, Toronto, Los Angeles, and London.

Why do you need to care?

You might be wondering why the clothes you see in fashion shows sometimes appear as exaggerations, but this is done only for marketing and artistic purposes. The elements depicting the original piece will be turned into more acceptable pieces before they reach the store.

Experts say that the healthy way for you to approach fashion is to pay attention to it in small doses. Just make sure that your wardrobe corresponds to the current times, or you may even indulge in a new trend or two every season.

Being in fashion shows that you are quite flexible and modern. It also means that you are willing to process and accept new ideas.

You may also look at fashion as an escape from the pressures of your environment. For example, say your country is at war yet you wear the current season’s fluffy ruffles, then you could temporarily break away from the harsh reality of your world through your clothes.

At the end of the day, everything that you put on can send a silent message to other people. Your own interpretation of fashion speaks about your good taste.

Staying Fashionable And Stylish As You Grow Older

No matter what age we are there is always a time in our life that we want to look our very best. Granted the older we get the less these times are as we feel less pressure to be at the cutting edge of fashion and style. But, there are still occasions when we like to put a little style and effort into being ourselves, more to show the world that we can still do it rather than showing the world how it is done. As we will have all seen through our own eyes our parents were the last people on the planet that we would have taken fashion advise from when we were growing up, I am sure that we have all been embarrassed by our parents fashion style when we were growing up, vowing never to make the same mistakes that they made when we grew up. As we ourselves grow older and fashion becomes less about trying to influence the world in what we wear and how we style ourselves but more about dressing in a style and fashion that we are comfortable in, not necessarily with the intention of embarrassing the kids.

Unlike the generation that our parents grew up in our generation is bombarded by advice and influences from such areas of the media as the television and from magazines so we are more aware than ever of what we should be wearing to be seen to be fashionable. The snag with all of this is that if you are aging and appear to be wearing all the latest fashions which maybe designed for a slightly younger generation you can appear to be someone trying to hang on to last throws of their youth in a very desperate manner. As you get older the trick with fashion is to try to blend in some new more fashionable items of clothing in with garment s that people recognize as more from your own generation and style, this way you can appear both stylish and keep your dignity.

A simple way to add a touch of style to any outfit that you choose to wear, whether it be at the cutting edge of fashion or just your own interpretation of fashion is to add accessories to your dress. Many items such as handbags, scarves, belts, hats and sunglasses are seen as luxury items in the fashion world and can be used to add a touch of style and value to any outfit that you are wearing. Of course the same rules apply with accessories as with any fashion item, it should match and compliment the rest of your outfit.

Sunglasses are a sure fire way of adding a touch of style and elegance to any outfit. We have all seen images of Italian ladies and gentlemen looking like style personified taking an evening stroll arm in arm and wearing sunglasses that look a million dollars.

Sunglasses create an aurora that is hard to be beaten by any other fashion accessory, a good set of stylish eyewear [http://www.sports-shades.com/Eyewear/Eyewear/Eyewear] sunglasses can go a long way to make an ordinary outfit look like an extra special outfit. Good quality designer sunglasses are hard to beat but there are so many cheaper makes on the market that are affordable and offer the same good look as the more costly options available. If you cannot afford a pair of the more expensive brands then do not be afraid to go for a more affordable make, they will still add more than a subtle touch of refinement to your look, which is more than I could ever say about my parents dress sense.

Were Jeans Ever Supposed to Be Fashionable?

Jeans. Humble work pants that were hard wearing yet comfortable. When I was about ten, that’s exactly what my favourite jeans were, to me at least.

These days, being all grown up and all, I head to the shops in search of a pair of jeans and very quickly, any quaint notion of what I thought jeans were, is dispelled in an instant. Today, jeans have gone decidedly upmarket.

Yes, the humble jeans are still the staple garment of choice for anyone involved in labour or leisure, but somewhere during the last ten to fifteen years or so, the fashion world has taken our favourite garments and has given them a makeover. I never thought I’d see the day that Giorgio Armani or Hugo Boss would include among their anticipated collections, their own flavour of jeans.

So just what have these big names in fashion brought to the party? well for one thing they’ve brought us a new distinction in the fashion vocabulary: Fashion Jeans.

That’s not the only thing they’ve given us. Along with the new terminology, we now have a whole new range of prices to consider.

Now call me old fashioned, but I find it hard to justify forking out the kind of money that I’m more used to spending on a suit, on a single pair of fashion jeans. There are times when, try as I might, I just can’t for the life of me, see anything special about some leading designers jeans that could possibly justify the eye popping price tags. Is it the cut? Is it the material? (I thought they were all 100% cotton!).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure fashion jeans are very well made and I’m sure they’re up to the job, after all, no designer worth their salt would dare put their name to any garment that was below par. They do have their empires to consider. All I’m saying is that I would find it very hard to justify that kind of outlay.

Fortunately for the fashion industry, it doesn’t rely on my purchases to sustain itself. It relies on the ever changing trends of the fashion buying global population who seemingly have no qualms handing over the asking price for the latest fashion jeans or the latest fashions full stop.

If it’s jeans your after, then it’s only right that you’ll buy what you like. Whether that’s regular jeans (like mine) or fashion jeans, but more to the point, you’ll buy them where you like. The only tip I’d like to pass on is the place to buy them. In short it’s the Internet. Branded, unbranded, basic or high fashion, you just won’t find them cheaper or more plentiful that online.

The humble jeans, who’d have thought.
