Do you enjoy standing out from the crowd. I know I do. I don’t mind how the rest of the world goes round and I don’t dislike the status quo, but, I really love that feeling that I am unlike anyone else–that I have my own tastes and styles that others may not consider proper or even acceptable at times. May I’m just naive, but I am always very comfortable with my decisions I make, not because they are rogue but because they are genuinely good decisions.

It is true also in the sometimes small and unimportant decisions I make each and every day. So when I go looking for something with which to decorate my house, I always look for something that I find very different or a tad bit unique in order to fit may particular taste. In all the time I’ve been authoring articles about home furnishings, I have found a few that I would love to share with others that might have a similar taste as me. They are the curiously different audio-visual furniture that I want to find a way to incorporate into my home.

I love the entertainment furniture that is made by those who are against technology getting into their personal life. Seriously, I have even found some pretty exciting entertainment centers made by our friendly Amish community. Now, my particular understanding of the Amish community is that they like to preserve traditional values and methods of doing things. As this is the case, they refrain from using motor vehicles such as cars or tractors. They do not watch TV or videos and they don’t use cell phones. However, what they do is make furnishings and other handmade anything that is unparalleled in quality and craftsmanship. Maybe it’s a little cynical, but I love to support my modern technology with furniture made by those who refuse to take part in it.

Last year, I attended a “green” fair, and came across some very interesting work by a company that want to preserve the rain forests. There was more to it, but that was the gist of it.

Green Tea Designs travels around the world to gather what they call “reclaimed wood” which is wood from structures that would normally be thrown out, burned, or otherwise destroyed. Then they use it to design and make fabulous high end pieces of furniture that anyone would be proud to display in their home. You should look at they work it is second to none, and you can justify the price by telling yourself that it’s all for the rain forest.

The last piece of furniture I would like to tell you about is something straight out of the movies and right into your family room. An TV stand that is motorized.You heard me right again. You touch some buttons on your remote control or some switch on a wall and you reveal the TV stand. It seems like an average furniture piece, but it amazes friends and family with its style. Few people have these around their home. Here’s the one drawback I have found. It looks somewhat like a bar so if you accidentally place something on it and then open it… bad news bears. These days, people don’t seem to care about the quality of the furniture that they buy or even lease in some cases. Please note that just because a chair or bedroom set looks good, doesn’t mean that it’s going to last a long time. It was the crazy and ‘alive’ movies of Hollywood in the 1930s (Also known as the Golden Age of Hollywood) that sparked the interest of mainstream America into furniture. As soon as people the saw the colorful pieces of Art Deco furniture (Which at that time was considered modern and superior to the present day dull furniture), people jumped on it and demanded more of what they saw in their favorite movies. Manfuacturers soon got busier than before and started working day and night to supply this enormous demand for Art Deco furniture.
